Our Clean Cars for Arizona campaign has shown once again how Arizona PIRG works to win concrete results. According to our research, the Clean Cars Program will cut carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to taking 1.3 million of today’s cars off the road for an entire year. Our public education efforts—knocking on doors, holding events at Arizona universities and participating in statewide meetings—helped build support for the Clean Cars Program. We reached out to build a coalition: the Arizona Consumers Council, Arizona Ecumenical Council, Phoenix Children’s Hospital and many others added their names to the list of Clean Cars supporters. Through our media outreach, newspapers including the Arizona Republic, Tucson Citizen and Flagstaff Daily Sun editorialized in favor of the Clean Cars Program. Our advocacy before Arizona’s decision-makers has helped move the state toward cleaner cars for our roads. We’ve made great strides, but the auto industry undoubtedly will continue to fight against changing the status quo. Thank you for providing us with the support to stand up to powerful interests.
