4/09/09: Over the past few decades, Arizona’s population has skyrocketed. This population growth has not been matched by public transportation investment and Arizona’s resulting dependence on cars is hurting the state. High and wildly fluctuating gas prices add to Arizonans’ economic woes, traffic congestion wastes valuable time and energy, and our cars and trucks produce pollution that harms Arizonans’ health and contributes to global warming.

Raising Arizona’s Energy Standards

The Arizona Corporation Commission unanimously approved one of the strongest energy efficiency standards in the country in part due to Arizona PIRG Education Fund reports, testimony, coalition and citizen involvement and media attention.  

Helping Utilities to Go Green

When the Salt River Project (SRP) sought a substantial rate increase, the Arizona PIRG Education Fund and our allies raised concerns about the cost of the increase and SRP’s limited investments in energy efficiency and clean renewable energy.

This fall, Arizona voters will elect two commissioners to the Corporation Commission. The candidates elected in the 2010 election for the Commission will guide Arizona’s energy policy into the future. Diane E. Brown, Executive Director

Diane E. Brown has been the Executive Director of Arizona PIRG Education Fund since 2004. In her role, she is responsible for coordinating research, policy development, coalition and media outreach, citizen organizing, and advocacy.

Diane has co-authored several reports including “Transparency 2.0: Using the Internet for Budget Transparency to Increase Accountability, Efficiency and Taxpayer Confidence” and “Arizona’s Next Frontier: Moving Our Transportation System into the 21st Century” and has testified before elected and government officials on topics to protect consumers in Arizona.
