Keep Dangerous Toys Off The Shelves
The
announcement that Mattel, one of the nation's biggest toy manufacturers
had to recall 9 million toys that children know and love gives us hope
that maybe the Congress will finally do something about beefing up our
tiny agency that is supposed to protect us from these hazards.
CPSC
lacks the leadership, the money, the staff and the legal authority it
needs to protect us from either dangerous imported or dangerous
domestically-produced products. As the manufacturer, Mattel is
responsible, but CPSC needs more resources to hold it and other
manufacturers accountable when they break the law.
Urge the Bush
Administration to protect our children from dangerous toys by giving
the CPSC the resources it needs to operate efficiently.

Petition Text
I am concerned about all the toy recalls that have happened over the last few weeks. Our children should not be exposed to lead paint and potentially fatal magnets.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission is massively underfunded and understaffed. For our children's safety please restore this agency's leadership, its authority and its funding.
Sincerely,
