Last year, Arizona adopted the Clean Cars Program, which limits health-damaging pollution from automobiles. But now the auto industry is urging members of the Arizona Legislature to prohibit enforcement of the program.

Letter	Dear Legislator, I am writing to urge to you to tell the auto industry it is time to let clean cars on Arizona’s roads and to vote no on any attempt in SB 1147, SB 1157 or other legislation to prohibit the Clean Cars Program from moving forward in Arizona. The Clean Cars Program -- which limits health-damaging pollution from automobiles -- was adopted in Arizona last year and needs to move ahead. The Clean Cars Program received a unanimous recommendation from a diverse set of Arizona stakeholders, ranging from utility and business leaders to public health and consumer organizations. In addition, thousands of Arizonans demonstrated support for the program through testimony and comments. Arizona’s rules do not affect the manufacture of automobiles until the 2012 model year for traditional pollutants like ozone, and not until the model year 2013 for greenhouse gases. There will be plenty of time to consider the federal action to be taken later this year, and to consult with the Legislature and affected parties before Arizona’s rules become effective. Please vote no on any attempt in SB 1147, SB 1157 or other legislation to prohibit the Clean Cars Program from moving forward in Arizona.
